Area Converter

The term 'area' refers to the space occupied by a two-dimensional shape or surface. This measurement is usually expressed in square units, such as cm2 or m2. To better understand area, let's consider a square drawn onto a sheet of paper. The area of the shape is nothing more than the area that it occupies - it can be calculated by simply dividing the length by the width. If the square wasn't located on squared paper, then the area can still be calculated by multiplying the sides together, such as 5cm x 5cm = 25cm2.

The amount of unit squares necessary to completely cover the surface of a certain two-dimensional shape can also be used to calculate the area. An array of common units exist for measuring area, including square cms, square feet, square inches, square metres and much more.

To effectively calculate area, draw unit squares with 1-centimetre sides so that the shape can be measured in square centimetres (cm2). This accurate method of measurement can be applied to many various two-dimensional shapes - enabling you to experiment until you achieve the ideal outcome.

Area Calculating Formulas

No matter where we look, we are surrounded by two-dimensional (2-D) shapes such as circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. We can draw or trace all of these shapes on the paper, but their area is determined in different ways. Each current 2-D shape has attributes that help define its area, and when combined, these characteristics provide the basis for understanding the underlying geometry. By learning to calculate the area of a shape, we gain an appreciation for its underlying form. This knowledge can be applied both practically and artistically to an array of real-life applications.

Determine the shape before locating the region. Use the relevant formula from the list below to get its area after that.

Area formula

A = π r²

Where r is the radius of the circle

 A = ½ (b × h) square units

Where, b is base and h is height

Side × Side

A = l × w

Where, l is length

W is width

A = b × h

b is base

h is perpendicular height

Area = 1/2 × Sum of parallel sides × Distance between them
